FogProject, the European project for end-to-end data protection, kicks-off in Aveiro, Portugal

FogProtect is a European-funded project set off to protect sensitive data in the computing continuum. This project is led by the Portuguese SME Ubiwhere and counts with the valuable collaboration of Athens Technological Center, IBM, IT Innovation Centre at the University of Southampton, Nokia, Thales Six GTX France, Technische Universitaet Wien, Universitaet Duisburg-Essen and Vlaamse Radio- en Televisieomroeporganisatie. The project will be launched at a three days meeting held in Aveiro, Portugal, on the next 11,12 and 13th of February.

The project will be carried out for 36 months, in which the consortium will be responsible for researching and delivering new and advanced architectures, technologies and methodologies to ensure the protection of sensitive data in the computing continuum, from cloud data centres through fog nodes to end devices.

To this end, a set of generic solutions will be developed and addressing essentially four innovation areas of technology: secure data portability, data-protection-aware adaptive service and resource management, end-to-end data protection policy management and data protection risk management.

These solutions will be implemented in several contexts and applications, demonstrating its feasibility through the practical application of three complementary real-use cases: smart cities, smart manufacturing and smart media.

FogProtect will foster the foundations required to empower data protection and support resilience, trustworthiness and human centricity in the Next Generation Internet world by gathering the knowledge and solutions of major European ICT providers with the technical expertise of innovative SMEs and leading research organizations.
